Global Surftag is proud to announce Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum as the Naming Rights Sponsor of the 2016 & 2017 Sailor Jerry Surftag.
To celebrate, 16 Boardriding Clubs have been invited to compete in the 2016 Sailor Jerry Surftag being held at South Curl Curl Beach, Sydney on Sunday 11th December. Celebrations will continue straight after the Men’s and Women’s Finals at the Hotel Steyne for the 2017 Sailor Jerry Surftag Launch Party.
North Narrabeen Boardriders will go into the event as the No.1 seed taking on Boardriding Clubs from all over the East Coast of Australia, including D’Bah, Merewether, Bondi and Wollongong’s Scarborough. The 2016 SJS will also feature a Women’s Final between D’Bah, North Narrabeen, North Shelly and Queenscliff.
Global Surftag Managing Director Steve Harrison is looking forward to including more Women in Surftag, “So stoked to announce Sailor Jerry as Naming Rights sponsor of Surftag,” Harrison said. “The 2017 Sailor Jerry Surftag Series will include three Qualifying Events and a Final with a Women’s Division at all four events. This will be the first time Women’s Boardriding Clubs have had their own Series and we are very excited to be crowning the best Women’s Boardriding Club in Australia alongside the Men.”
Qualifying Events will be held at Cronulla, Newcastle and the Gold Coast with the Final scheduled to be held in Sydney. Dates and venues will be announced at a later date with the Series set to run January to April 2017.

Surftag was first held in 2001 at Queenscliff Beach, Sydney and quickly grew over the following years into a National Series with over 100 teams competing. North Narrabeen Boardriders are the most successful club winning 6 Australian Championships with Snapper Rocks Surfriders winning two. Other winners include D’Bah, Werri Beach, Umina, Le-Ba, North Steyne and Queenscliff.
Curl Curl Boardriders Team Captain Matt Bemrose is looking forward to representing his local Club, “It’s going to be so good competing on our home beach as a team,” Bemrose said. “Stoked to hear the Series is back on and can’t wait to surf against all the other teams. Surftag is always fun and our team loves to party so everyone is welcome back to Hilly’s after we win.”
With the five best male and female surfers Over 18 representing their local Boardriding Club, the standard of surfing in the Sailor Jerry Surftag will be World Class.
