Merewether’s Women’s Team Create History Winning On Debut at Sailor Jerry Surftag Qualifier.
The Women’s Division Merewether created history defeating North Narrabeen in the Final, 47.83 to 34.51. It was the first time Merewether had entered a Women’s team in the Sailor Jerry Surftag and the team of Philippa Anderson, Sarah Phelan, Ruby Bortolus, Abbey Paxton and Laura Phelan had earlier in the day won their Semi Final by 30 points. Anderson was the standout on the day posting a 9.17 Powerwave in the Semi Final that she backed up with a two-wave total of 15.67 in the Final.
“The Merewether gals are super happy on the win,” Anderson said. “We all love to surf and coming together to take the win was amazing on our home turf. All the Women’s teams that competed over the weekend put up a good fight and the standard of surfing was really high so we’re stoked to take the win. I’m super thrilled to take the best score of the day with a 9.17 and hopefully I can do the same in the National Final in May.”
Joining Merewether and North Narrabeen at the Australian Championships will be North Shelly who finished in third position ahead of Queenscliff.
