With the WSL Fiji Pro only days away, the spotlight has landed firmly on Hawaiian and current junior world champion Mahina Maeda, who secured a wild card into the prestigious world tour event. Currently sitting in fourth spot on the World Qualifying Series rankings, Mahina is in a strong position to join the tour full time next year as a rookie.
But what has certainly not gone unnoticed has been Mahina’s efforts in the big wave domain. Taking on the deadly big wave spot Nazare in Portugal and riding waves in excess of 30feet, Mahina described the experience in an interview with ESPN, “My mind just went blank, I could hear just my heart pumping. That’s it.”
We can’t wait to see what is in store for this fearless and supremely talented young lady who is set to take the world by storm, one massive wave at a time…
