A carry on from our Facebook post in April 2015…

Jamie Brown

We’ve had a few emails recently asking for our recommendation is for a good bikini to surf in. Instead of giving GSN’s recommendation, we’re putting it out to you girls!

Head over to the new forum topic “Best Swimwear for Surfing” to comment.

What’s your recommendation for a bikini that stays on while surfing…. No ads, no paid posts. Just your honest and experienced opinions please! We also understand that you may not enjoy or recommend surfing in a bikini at all. If that’s that case, let us know why and what you do prefer to surf in.

Instead of just throwing in a brand name, give us girls (and designers) a bit of feedback on the bikini’s/swimwear/suits as well!

I am a big wave surfer, the bigger the drop the better, and the only suits I trust for surfing are Costa Bikinis. They’re the only bikinis that stay on in extreme surf conditions, and I recommend them to all surfgirls. Check them out at Many fun styles and prints!

I’m the designer of VOLT BIKINIS! They have been tested by big wave riders like Jamilah Star and by pros like Paige Hareb and Sofia Mulanovich!! To name some….

    Thank you

When the surf is gnarly my go to suit is my MiOla bikini. I wear the casita boythong bottom, which has a drawstring on the side making it more comfortable then suits with a drawstring in front. This bottom is also lined making it super cosy so you can go right into chill mode after your session. I wear the tira halter top- it’s the only halter I’ve been able to comfortably wear while surfing. I could pretty much do anything in these suits, go for a run or even sleep in it. The best designed suits on the market.

The most important thing I look for from a surf brand is variety in their bikinis and the ability to choose separate tops and bottoms – after all we all have different shaped bodies and surf in different conditions so want different things from out surf wear. In my opinion MI OLA has a great range of separates: I surf in the boy short and wrap top as they give me the coverage and security I need in big waves. I highly recommend you check them out.

    MIOLA bikinis are AMAZING !

I SUP in them, I SUPsurf in them, I yoga and hike and surf in them.
For me what works is it stays put, when I totally bail and waves thrash me around I don’t worry about getting up and being exposed. They are SO comfortable. The owner, Helena, is AMAZING and loves feedback and suggestions.
The bikinis are sexy and look amazing on. Everyone always wants to know where they can get one. I think these bikinis are for sure a MUST have if you’re looking to do anything active in the water of course but also on land !!

okay so I’m no pro or anything, just a girl who loves to surf and I haven’t tried a range of bikinis because I’m sometimes afraid to wear them in case of showing off more than my skills! :/ but I have tried salt gypsy surf leggings..I trust most people know that the whole ribbon tie, eye patch looking ones are obviously a no go, so if you have a safe top piece I highly highly highly recommend you try salt gypsy leggings. I also live in an area where uv rays are waaay too high and it can get cold so they are perfect for both situations and they stay on perfectly well and by no means restrict you from your surf!! love them to bits xxx
